Edward J. Riordan

Edward Joseph Riordan, 72, of Warsaw, passed away May 4, 2016 at his home after an extended illness. He was born June 20, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois to Rose (Monahan) and Harry Riordan. On Nov. 1, 1978, he married Joan Marie Higgins in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, James Edward Riordan, Waukegan, Illinois and Daniel Patrick Riordan, Schererville, Indiana; a beloved grandson, Matthew Nicholas Riordan, North Chicago and a sister Donna Devine, Crestwood, Illinois. He was also an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John Patrick Riordan and James Timothy Riordan and a sister Patricia Lencioni.

He was a 1961 graduate of Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago and later that year joined the U.S. Army. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1964 when he was honorably discharged. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers while stationed in South Korea. In 1965, he became a patrolman with the Chicago Police Department. After 28 years of service, he retired from the police department in 1993.

After moving to the area he was the Street Superintendent for Leesburg from 1994 to 2011. From 2006 to 2011, he was joined in Leesburg every day by his loyal companion Buddy, a border collie mix, who died in 2015.

He was a devoted fan of Notre Dame athletics, the Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, White Sox and Bulls.
