Winona Lake

Gerald “Jerry” Perkins, 71, of Winona Lake passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 27, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. He was born June 8, 1948 in Carrollton, Kentucky to Melvin N. and Mary C. (Rosell) Perkins.

Jerry joined the United States Army in 1965 serving as a medic before his honorable discharge in 1968. Jerry was a private individual but had a heart to help others, while living in Ocala, Florida he volunteered with Vets helping Vets. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching sports and crime shows. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends.

His niece Haley writes: “Those special memories of you, will always make me smile. If only I could have you back, just for a little while. Then we could still sit and talk again, just like we used to. You always meant so much to me and always will. The fact that you are no longer here, will always cause me pain, but you’re forever in my heart, until we meet again.”

Jerry is survived by five siblings, Patricia Alt of Mishawaka, Nina (Phil) Stapleton of South Whitley, Paul (Lois) Perkins of Muncie, Bobby Wadkins of Muncie and Sally Perkins of Claypool. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, Brandon Alt, Chris Alt, Kathy Rodgers, Jamesyn Rodgers, Melaine Turner, Kaidence Carey, Haley Carey and Lennon Carey.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Don Perkins and Jasper Perkins and a sister Melvina Perkins.

In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, cremation will take place with private family services held at a later date.
