Sammie L. Vickers, 85 of Warsaw passed away December 19, 2017 at Kosciusko Community Hospital. Sammie was born August 17, 1932 in Morehead, Kentucky to Elby and Maria Vickers. He was raised by Wilber and Bessie Butler.

After graduating High School, Sammie went on to serve in the United States Air Force retiring after 20 years of honorable service, doing tours in Germany and Vietnam.

Sammie enjoyed fishing, playing cards, golfing, gardening and collecting coins. He enjoyed telling stories, some of them true, and had a good sense of humor. A recent quote of his was “I lived, I died, I deserve a high five!”

Sammie is survived by four children, Bobby R. (Cecilla) Vickers, Barbara Sue Holbrook, Brenda Rose and Lisa (Ron) Harman all of Warsaw, and 49 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is his partner in Life of 40 years, Mary Lou Laurino of Warsaw and her five children, Charlene (Brad) Witham of Warsaw, Michael (Lynn) Lackey of Warsaw, Nicholas (Nancy) Laurino of Indianapolis, Renee Gibson of Warsaw and Toni (Kevin)Wilson of Warsaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

According to Sammie’s wishes there will be a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date with full military honors.
